Managed IT services in The Woodlands typically cost $125 to $175 per user per month for fully managed support in 2026, by our estimate, and our published plans start at $91 per user for small remote teams. The plan that includes on-site infrastructure work starts at $138. Microsoft licensing is extra.
I’m the Lead vCIO at Uprite, and I spend a lot of my week inside other people’s IT budgets. Owners in Montgomery County usually ask me the same thing when a renewal shows up. Are they paying a Woodlands premium, or a Conroe discount? Neither, it turns out. Our page on managed IT services in The Woodlands explains what the service includes. This guide is about the bill.
Here’s the short version. Nobody can honestly quote you a separate Montgomery County rate, because the labor market behind every quote is the Houston metro. Same techs. Same wages. What changes your number is how many seats you have, how fast that count is moving, who on your payroll actually needs a login, and how often someone has to drive up I-45 to your door. I pulled the public data on all 4.
What Does Managed IT Cost in The Woodlands in 2026?
Managed IT is a monthly service where an outside provider runs a company’s help desk, devices, network, backups, and security for a fee that’s almost always charged per user. In The Woodlands and the rest of Montgomery County, that fee follows Houston pricing, since providers here hire technicians from the same metro and bid for the same clients.
| What you’re buying | Monthly cost per user | Where the number comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Uprite IT Essentials, remote only, teams under 12 | From $91 | Published Uprite rate |
| Uprite Co-Managed IT Partnership, for companies with their own IT person | From $100 | Published Uprite rate |
| Uprite Fully Managed IT, with on-site work in the plan | From $138 | Published Uprite rate |
| Uprite MSSP Security Focus, added to an in-house IT team | From $40 | Published Uprite rate |
| Fully managed IT across greater Houston | $125 to $175 | Uprite estimate from Houston proposals |
| Microsoft 365 Business Premium | $22 on top | Microsoft list price, annual plan |
| Backup, email security, and password manager stack | $30 to $50 on top | Uprite estimate |
The Houston band comes from our guide to managed IT costs in Houston, and the statewide comparison sits in the Texas MSP Pricing Index. Both are Uprite estimates. They aren’t a survey. I’d still pick them over a national average, since they’re built for Houston-area offices.
So why no county figure? The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes occupational pay by metro area, and its metro is literally named Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands, so a help desk tech in Shenandoah and one in the Galleria are drawn from the same pool. Same pool, same pay. The BLS metropolitan area wage estimates put the May 2025 mean for computer user support specialists there at $62,700 a year. The Woodlands even spills across the county line into Harris County at Creekside Park, and no quote I’ve seen changes when it does.
The 12-Seat Line Matters More Than the County Line
Montgomery County is a county of small offices. The Census Bureau counted 15,014 business locations with paid staff there in 2023, and 72.8% of them had fewer than 10 people on payroll. Harris County came in at 70.5%. Close, but not equal.
| Employees at the location | Montgomery County locations | Montgomery share | Harris County share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fewer than 10 | 10,932 | 72.8% | 70.5% |
| 10 to 19 | 1,951 | 13.0% | 12.5% |
| 20 to 49 | 1,379 | 9.2% | 10.0% |
| 50 to 99 | 435 | 2.9% | 3.8% |
| 100 or more | 317 | 2.1% | 3.3% |
| All locations | 15,014 | 100% | 100% |
Both columns are drawn from the 2023 County Business Patterns release, counting every industry. The gap widens in professional services. Among Montgomery County’s 2,090 professional, scientific, and technical offices, 87.2% had fewer than 10 people. In Harris it was 82.0%.

Small headcount matters for one plain reason. IT Essentials, our $91 remote plan, is meant for offices with fewer than 12 people. IT Pro, according to our pricing page, is sold to 12-plus teams located beyond the Houston and San Antonio areas, and every town in Montgomery County sits inside the Houston metro. Willis included. So once an office here reaches 12 people, the real choice is Fully Managed IT at $138 or, if there’s an IT person on staff, the co-managed partnership at $100.
Run that jump with real numbers. An 11-person office on IT Essentials pays $1,001 a month before licensing. Add a 12th hire and move to Fully Managed, and it’s $1,656. That’s $655 more for the 12th person. But the plan changes too, because Fully Managed brings 24/7 coverage and on-site infrastructure work that the remote plan doesn’t carry. You get more for it.
I’d plan for that step before the 12th offer letter goes out. Not after.
A County That Keeps Adding Seats
Montgomery County grew from 620,551 people at the 2020 census base to 781,194 in the Census Bureau’s 2025 estimate, a 25.9% gain. Harris County grew 6.7% over the same stretch. That’s nearly 4 times faster. In the 2025 estimate year alone Montgomery added 30,011 residents, the third-largest numeric gain of any Texas county, according to the Census population estimates.
The businesses are following. Private-sector employers in Montgomery County averaged 15,360 locations in 2025, up 288 from 2024, while Harris County lost 1,658. Montgomery’s private payrolls rose 3.6% to 200,121 jobs over the same year, and construction alone went from 15,625 jobs to 20,690, a reported gain of 5,065 jobs, or 32.4%, in a single industry. It may be partly reclassification. All of these figures are annual averages in the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages that BLS publishes.
Growth changes a managed IT bill in ways that don’t show up on page 1 of a proposal. Seats get added in the middle of a term, a second office opens in Magnolia or along the Grand Parkway, and suddenly there are 2 networks, 2 internet circuits, and 2 sets of printers to support. It happens fast here. Each one has a price. Onboarding a new location is project work at most providers, so ask how each of those is billed before you sign, because a fast-growing company will use every one of them in its first year.
Who Counts as a User When Half the Crew Works in the Field?
Per-user pricing assumes everyone sits at a desk. Plenty don’t. The county’s mining support sector, the federal category for oilfield service work, employed 3,748 people in 2025 at an average of $159,841 a year, and its location quotient was 9.31, meaning that kind of work is about 9 times as concentrated here as it is nationally. That’s not a typo. Engineering and architecture firms ran 1.39. Construction, 1.66.
A 40-person field services company in Conroe might have 12 people in the office and 28 who need nothing more than a phone, a timesheet app, and an email account that someone can shut off the day they quit. Paying full per-user rates for all 40 rarely makes sense. It’s wasteful. Our pricing FAQ allows mixing plans across departments or user types in some cases, so office staff can sit on one plan while field users sit on another. Ask any provider how it counts a shared rugged tablet in a truck. Then compare answers. What they say tells you a lot about how they’ll bill everything else.

Watch the opposite mistake too. A field user with access to payroll, bank portals, or customer data needs the same protection as anyone in the office. Don’t skimp there. Cheap seats with no security are where a lot of breaches start.
What the Drive Up I-45 Adds to the Price
Montgomery County covers a lot of ground. Willis sits 55 miles out. On-site work has a cost even when it isn’t itemized. I mapped the drive from our Houston office at 5718 Westheimer Road to the Census Bureau’s center point for each town, using the OSRM routing engine on OpenStreetMap roads. These are free-flow times with no traffic. Rush hour on I-45 runs longer, and none of this is a response commitment.
| Town | Road miles one way | Free-flow minutes one way | Provider cost per round trip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring (Harris County) | 32.4 | 44 | $112 |
| Oak Ridge North | 35.3 | 47 | $121 |
| Shenandoah | 37.0 | 50 | $128 |
| The Woodlands | 39.6 | 55 | $139 |
| Magnolia | 42.0 | 57 | $146 |
| Porter Heights | 44.2 | 60 | $153 |
| Conroe | 47.3 | 62 | $160 |
| Willis | 55.0 | 70 | $184 |
| Montgomery | 51.8 | 73 | $184 |
The cost column is a provider-side estimate, not an Uprite fee. It values a technician’s time at the Houston mean for user support specialists, then multiplies by 1.43 for benefits and payroll taxes, the gap between pay and total compensation in the June 2026 BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation release. That comes to about $43 an hour. Mileage is added at the IRS business standard mileage rate of 76 cents a mile, the rate in force since July 1, 2026.

Spread 2 visits a month over the office and the per-seat effect shows up fast. For a 30-person firm in The Woodlands it’s about $9 a seat. For an 8-person office it’s closer to $35. Same drive, fewer seats. In Willis, a 5-person shop would carry about $74 a seat. That’s why small offices that sit an hour from a provider’s bench get pushed toward remote plans, and it’s also why the plans that include on-site work carry a higher starting rate. Fully Managed IT covers on-site infrastructure work at the plan rate. The remote plans can be upgraded to add on-site service as needed.
3 Montgomery County Budgets, Worked Out
These are hypothetical offices priced against our published starting rates and the $22 Microsoft 365 Business Premium license. Real quotes depend on scope, but the math is the same.
| Office | Plan | Managed IT per month | With Business Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8-person law office near Town Center | IT Essentials at $91, remote | $728 | $904 |
| Same 8-person law office | Fully Managed at $138 | $1,104 | $1,280 |
| 14-person dental practice in Magnolia | Fully Managed at $138 | $1,932 | $2,240 |
| 30-person engineering firm on Research Forest Drive | Fully Managed at $138 | $4,140 | $4,800 |
Look at the law office first. At 8 people, $376 a month separates remote-only support from a plan with on-site work and round-the-clock coverage. If the office has a server closet, a phone system, and a partner who calls every time the conference room screen won’t connect, the higher plan is often cheaper by the end of the year. If everything lives in Microsoft 365 and nobody’s ever needed a tech on site, it isn’t. Be honest about which.
The Magnolia practice has 14 people, which puts it past the 12-seat line, so the remote plan doesn’t apply. Inside the Houston band those 14 seats would run $1,750 to $2,450 a month before licensing. For the engineering firm the same band gives $3,750 to $5,250, and our published rate lands it at $4,140.
What Pushes a Woodlands Quote Toward $175 or Past It
The top of the Houston band, and anything above it, is usually driven by 4 things.
- Regulated data. A medical or dental practice handles health records, and that adds HIPAA risk analysis, audit logging, and tighter access rules to the scope.
- Round-the-clock operations, like a plant running 2 shifts in Conroe Park North or a dispatch office that never closes.
- Old equipment that can’t be patched but can’t be retired either, such as a CNC controller or an aging accounting server.
- Recovery expectations. A company that needs to be back up in hours after a storm pays for more backup and testing than one that can wait a few days.
Breach rules belong in that conversation as well. Under Texas Business and Commerce Code section 521.053, a business has to notify affected people within 60 days of determining a breach happened, and has to notify the Texas attorney general within 30 days if 250 or more Texans are involved. That clock is short. A security layer that catches an intrusion early is cheaper than that paperwork. Our MSSP Security Focus plan adds that layer starting at $40 a user when you already have IT staff.
Recovery planning for hurricanes and grid outages is its own topic, and our guide to backup and disaster recovery in The Woodlands goes deeper on it. Price it as its own line, separate from the help desk.
Questions to Ask Before You Sign
Take this list into every proposal meeting. Ask for written answers.
- Do on-site visits come out of the monthly fee, or get billed one at a time?
- What do you charge to drive to my town, and does that grow with distance?
- What happens to the bill when we hire or lose people mid-contract?
- How do you count field workers and shared devices?
- Are Microsoft licenses bundled into the rate or billed separately?
- What does onboarding a new office cost?
- What’s excluded?
- What’s the hourly rate for excluded work?
Here’s where we stand. Each price on our published pricing page is where a plan starts, and licenses are billed separately. Fully Managed IT includes on-site infrastructure work. Year-one pricing is guaranteed, and there’s a 120-day satisfaction promise. If you want the local view, read our pages on managed IT services in Conroe and managed IT services in Spring. Price My Woodlands OfficeWhat Woodlands Business Owners Ask About IT Pricing
How much does managed IT cost in The Woodlands?
Fully managed IT in The Woodlands costs about $125 to $175 per user each month in 2026, our estimate for all of greater Houston. Uprite plans start at $91 per user for remote support for teams under 12, and at $138 for Fully Managed IT with on-site infrastructure work included.
Is IT support cheaper in Conroe than in The Woodlands?
Not on the rate. Both sit in the Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands metro, where IT wages are measured and providers hire. What differs is distance. Conroe is about 62 free-flow minutes from our Houston office versus 55 for The Woodlands, so on-site visits cost a provider a bit more.
What happens to my IT bill when my team reaches 12 people?
It usually steps up. IT Essentials from $91 is built for teams under 12, and IT Pro is listed only for teams outside the Houston and San Antonio areas. A Montgomery County office of 12 or more typically moves to Fully Managed IT from $138, or co-managed IT from $100 if it has an in-house IT person.
Do Montgomery County IT providers charge for travel?
Some providers do, and it varies. One contract folds on-site visits into the per-user fee, another bills a flat trip charge, and a third sets a minimum number of billable hours per visit. Uprite includes on-site infrastructure work in Fully Managed IT, and its remote plans can be upgraded to add on-site service as needed.
Can field workers be priced differently from office staff?
In some cases, yes. The Uprite pricing FAQ allows mixing plans across departments or user types, which helps oilfield, construction, and service companies with crews who only need email, a phone, and a timesheet app. Ask every provider how it counts shared devices, because that rule drives the total.
Is Microsoft 365 included in the per-user price?
No, not at Uprite, where every published rate is a floor and licenses are billed separately. Microsoft lists Business Premium at $22 a user monthly when paid annually, and Business Basic at $7. A backup, email security, and password manager stack usually adds about $30 to $50 more.
How long does it take to drive from Houston to The Woodlands?
About 55 minutes with no traffic, from our office at 5718 Westheimer Road to the center of The Woodlands. Spring is about 44 minutes and Willis about 70. Those are free-flow routing estimates, rush hour on I-45 runs longer, and they are drive times rather than response commitments.
