Uprite Services ranks first for healthcare IT support in Houston for 2026, scoring 9.0 on our Practice Support Score for a published 5.06-minute average response, published pricing and named EHR support. ICS Technology Group scores 7.2 on 45 years in Houston. True North ITG scores 6.7 as a healthcare-only specialist.
Five Houston-area providers, scored on 7 weighted criteria. Google and Clutch review data was read live on 17 September 2026, and every provider was checked for a Houston-area street address.
This is a comparison page for practice managers shortlisting healthcare IT support in Houston. It isn’t our sales page. If you already know you want to see what we offer, that lives on our page for managed IT services for Houston healthcare practices. Comparing beyond Houston? Our guide to managed IT for healthcare in Texas covers the state laws that sit on top of HIPAA.
Quick picks
- Best overall. Uprite Services, for practices that want a named response time and a price before the first meeting
- Best for multi-office specialty groups. ICS Technology Group, whose published client list includes a 30-office eye practice
- Best healthcare-only specialist. True North ITG, for practices that want every engineer to live inside EHR work
- Best for west-side dental and optometry offices. Chimera IT Solutions, out of Katy
- Best for a small Southwest Houston clinic. HoustonTech, a hands-on shop of fewer than 10 people
Still shopping? Good. Here’s the number that shaped how we scored this list.
Harris County had 10,750 private ambulatory health care establishments in 2025, employing 143,435 people, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages. That works out to about 13 people per location. Add Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria and Galveston counties and you get 15,501 sites averaging 12.5 staff each.
About twelve people. No IT department.
So in most Houston practices the outside provider is the IT department, full stop, and the things that go wrong on a Tuesday morning are rarely dramatic. A front desk scanner stops talking to the practice management system, an eligibility portal rejects a login, the e-fax queue quietly backs up, or the EHR slows to a crawl twenty minutes before the first patient. That’s the work we scored. HIPAA matters too, and we cover the compliance-first shortlist separately in our ranking of HIPAA-compliant IT companies in Houston.
How We Ranked These Houston Healthcare IT Providers
Every provider is scored out of 10 on seven weighted criteria, from verified reviews to published pricing, applied the same way to all five. Rankings come from a Practice Support Score methodology. Full disclosure, Uprite publishes this page and ranks itself, which is exactly why every weight and score is printed here. Nobody paid to be listed, and every figure came from public profiles rather than from the providers themselves.
| Criterion | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Verified reviews | 30% | Clutch rating and volume (half the weight) plus Google rating and volume (the other half) |
| Clinical systems depth | 25% | Named EHR and practice management platforms, healthcare focus, named healthcare clients, BAA practice |
| Houston onsite reach | 15% | A Houston-area street address, a Google profile at that address, stated onsite coverage, bench size |
| Published response commitments | 10% | A response-time number, an SLA or a guarantee a practice can hold the provider to |
| Years and bench depth | 10% | Founding year and the size of the team behind the help desk |
| Pricing transparency | 5% | A per-user or per-device price you can see without booking a call |
| Awards and attestations | 5% | Independent lists and audited attestations such as SOC 2 |
Why these weights? Because a 12-person clinic doesn’t lose its morning to a missing award. It loses it to an EHR problem nobody on the phone understands. Clinical systems depth gets a quarter of the score for that reason, and it’s the one criterion where we lose outright. True North ITG beats us on it. Fair’s fair.
We also cut awards from the 20% our standard model uses to 5%. That costs us points, since we’re the only firm here with a national list placement. We made the cut anyway. Reviews follow one strict rule. A provider with no Clutch profile keeps only half of that weight, moved onto its Google score, and loses the rest, because a verified client-interview record takes real effort to build. ICS, True North ITG and Chimera IT all took that hit. Harsh? A little.
One more disclosure. We run two Houston Google profiles, 4.8 across 61 reviews at our Westheimer office and 4.3 across 12 at Space Center Boulevard, and we scored them together as 4.7 across 73. Scoring only the stronger profile would have been the easy cherry-pick. We didn’t.
Sensitivity check. Delete pricing and awards entirely and the order holds, with Uprite at 8.9 and ICS at 7.5. Score reviews on Google alone and ICS takes the review criterion from us, 9.8 to 9.3, because 118 reviews at 4.9 is a better record than ours. Credit where due.

The Top 5 Healthcare IT Support Providers in Houston
1. Uprite Services, the Most Published Commitments
Practice Support Score 9.0 out of 10
We run a dedicated healthcare program on top of a 27-year Houston managed IT practice, and we’re the only firm on this list that publishes both a response-time number and a per-user price.
Key strengths
- A 5.06-minute average ticket response, published on our homepage where any practice can hold us to it
- Fully managed IT from $138 per user per month, listed on our Houston managed IT pricing guide before anyone asks
- Named support for Epic, Athenahealth, Dentrix, Eaglesoft and Kareo, with a Business Associate Agreement signed at onboarding rather than when an auditor asks for it
- Channel Futures MSP 501 seven consecutive years, plus a CRN Pioneer 250 listing
- Two Houston offices, one near the Galleria and one on Space Center Boulevard, covering 2,227 supported users today
Where we’re not the right fit
Healthcare is 10% of our client mix on Clutch. We run a dedicated healthcare program, Uprite MED℠, but the company also supports manufacturers, law firms and energy operators, so a practice that wants a vendor doing nothing but clinics should look hard at True North ITG. No shame in that. Our SOC 2 attestation is Type 1, which tests control design on a single date. ICS holds Type 2, which tests whether controls actually operated over a period. And our Space Center Boulevard Google profile sits at 4.3, lower than we’d like. We’re working on it.
Best for. Houston medical, dental and specialty practices from roughly 10 to 250 staff that want a fixed monthly price, a response number in writing and one team for the network, phones and EHR workstations
Not ideal for. Hospital systems running their own Epic build team, or a practice that only wants a HIPAA risk assessment and nothing else
Services. Fully managed and co-managed IT, 24/7 help desk, onsite support, EHR workstation and integration support, HIPAA risk assessments, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, backup and managed phones
Industries. Healthcare, dental, legal, financial services, manufacturing, energy, nonprofits and government
Why we rank first. Uprite is a Houston managed IT provider that gives medical and dental practices a single team for help desk, security and EHR-adjacent support, and it’s distinct because the commitments are public before the sales call. Plenty of firms say they’re fast. We put 5.06 minutes and 120 days on the page, the second being the window in which any practice can walk away from its contract if we haven’t earned it. That’s the bet.
Recognition Behind the Ranking
2. ICS Technology Group, Four Decades in Northwest Houston
Practice Support Score 7.2 out of 10
ICS has been supporting Houston businesses since 1981, which makes it the oldest firm here by almost two decades.
Key strengths
- Houston Eye Associates, 30 offices and 65 doctors, is named on its healthcare page as a client
- SOC 2 Type 2, a stronger attestation than ours
- 4.9 stars across 118 Google reviews at its Fallbrook Drive office, the deepest local review record on this list
- A 60-day risk-free trial on managed services
Worth knowing. The healthcare page never names an EHR or practice management platform, which makes it hard to tell whether the help desk knows your system or just your network. Ask them directly. ICS also sells phones, cabling, video conferencing and surveillance, and it has no Clutch profile, so it gave up part of its review score under our rule.
Best for. Established specialty groups with several offices across northwest and central Houston that value a long local track record
Not ideal for. A practice that needs a vendor to prove specific EHR experience before signing
Why ICS ranks second. Naming a 30-office eye practice as a client is about the strongest healthcare proof a local firm can publish. Pair that with 45 years in business and it’s a serious option, held back mainly by what it doesn’t say about clinical software.
3. True North ITG, the Healthcare-Only Specialist
Practice Support Score 6.7 out of 10
True North ITG does healthcare and nothing else, and it shows in how specifically it talks about EHR platforms.
Key strengths
- Athena, NextGen, eClinicalWorks and GE Centricity named on its Houston page
- Over 30 senior IT consultants with more than 10 years of EHR experience each, by its own count
- 100+ practices under management
- Named clients, among them ProOrthopedics and The Pain Center
Here’s the odd part. True North’s main office is a suite on I-45 in The Woodlands, yet the only Google profile we could find for it sits in Mill Creek, Washington, with five reviews. Its Houston page does promise proactive onsite visits alongside 24/7 support, but the same site lists service regions from Austin to Chicago to Tampa, so ask who would actually drive to your office. Pricing is request-only. Plan on a call.
Best for. Practices whose biggest headache is the EHR itself, such as upgrades, interfaces or a platform migration
Not ideal for. A practice that wants to judge a provider by its local Houston reviews
Why True North ranks third. Nobody on this list matches its clinical systems depth, us included. Not even close. The score sags on the local record a Houston office manager can check.
4. HoustonTech, Small and Hands-On in Southwest Houston
Practice Support Score 6.2 out of 10
HoustonTech is a small Southwest Freeway shop that names the EHR systems it supports, which is more than most firms twice its size bother to do.
Key strengths
- eClinicalWorks, Athenahealth and Epic named on its healthcare page
- 4.6 stars across 29 Google reviews at 11224 Southwest Freeway
- Onsite and remote support, with onboarding quoted at 5 to 10 business days
The limit is size. Clutch lists HoustonTech at 2 to 9 employees, with medical at 5% of its client mix, so a vacation or two sick days can thin the bench fast. It publishes no response-time number and no pricing. Ask who covers.
Best for. A single-location clinic near Sharpstown, Alief or Missouri City that wants to know its technician by name
Not ideal for. Groups with several sites or extended clinic hours
Why HoustonTech ranks fourth. Naming three EHR platforms puts it ahead of bigger firms on clinical specifics. A team this small caps the rest.
5. Chimera IT Solutions, Katy-Based Practice Support
Practice Support Score 5.4 out of 10
Chimera IT is a family-owned Katy firm whose client base leans hard toward dental, medical, optometry and veterinary offices.
Key strengths
- Dental, medical, optometry and veterinary practices sit at the front of its site
- Stated onsite coverage from Katy and Sugar Land out to Pearland, League City, Baytown, Spring and The Woodlands
- 5.0 stars across 14 Google reviews
The tradeoff. Chimera publishes no founding year, no platform list, no response commitment and no pricing, and describes itself as a small team. That’s four blanks a buyer has to fill in on a call. Fill them early.
Best for. Dental, optometry and veterinary offices in Katy, Fulshear and west Houston
Not ideal for. A practice that wants documented commitments before a first meeting
Why Chimera ranks fifth. Its focus fits small clinical offices well. Its public record is simply the thinnest of the five.
What These Five Providers Publish, and What They Leave Out
We went through each provider’s healthcare pages looking for five things a practice manager can hold a vendor to. The result was blunter than we expected.
| Provider | EHR platforms named | Response time published | Price published | Onsite coverage stated | Security attestation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uprite Services | 5 | Yes, 5.06 min average | Yes, from $138 per user | Yes | SOC 2 Type 1 |
| ICS Technology Group | 0 | No | No | Yes | SOC 2 Type 2 |
| True North ITG | 4 | No | No | Yes, proactive visits | SOC 2 compliance claimed, report type not stated |
| HoustonTech | 3 | No | No | Yes | None published |
| Chimera IT Solutions | 0 | No | No | Yes | None published |
One firm out of five publishes a response number. One publishes a price. Two never name a clinical system at all.
None of that means the other four are slow or expensive. It means you’ll have to get those answers in writing yourself, and a provider that won’t put a response target in the contract is telling you something. True North’s site says it uses HITRUST-certified data centers, which is a claim about the facilities it rents, not an audit of the company. Check the paperwork.
How to Choose Healthcare IT Support in Houston
Match the provider to your practice size, your EHR and your map, then make them put response times, BAA terms and exit terms in writing. The rest is chemistry.
Solo and small clinics. Under 15 staff, one site. You need someone local. HoustonTech or Chimera IT can work if the office is on their side of town, and a flat per-user plan keeps the bill predictable.
Multi-office specialty groups. Once a practice has three or four locations, standardization matters more than friendliness, since every site needs the same images, the same backup schedule and the same access rules. ICS and Uprite both carry the bench for that. Consistency wins.
EHR-heavy practices. Migrating platforms, building interfaces or running a hosted EHR? Different skill set. Talk to True North ITG, and ask whoever handles your network to work alongside it.
Practices with an IT person already. Don’t replace them. A co-managed arrangement gives that person escalation help and after-hours cover, which is how our co-managed IT services work.
Six questions to ask on the sales call
- When do you sign the Business Associate Agreement, and whose template is it?
- Which practice running our EHR can we call as a reference?
- If the EHR vendor goes down and our network is fine, what do you do in the first hour?
- How long does it take a technician to reach our address, and our second address?
- Which subcontractors will touch our systems?
- What does leaving look like, including handing back passwords and documentation?
Question three is the one most providers fumble. Ask it twice. The HIPAA Security Rule at 45 CFR 164.308(a)(7) makes a data backup plan, a disaster recovery plan and an emergency mode operation plan required, not optional, while testing those plans is only addressable, which is exactly why so many practices discover their downtime procedure on the day they need it. The federal SAFER Guides are a free place to start that conversation, and we worked through the dollars behind it in our look at what EMR downtime costs Texas medical groups.
Question five matters for a different reason. Under 45 CFR 164.314, a business associate has to make sure its own subcontractors agree to the same safeguards. Ask to see that flow-down. Most won’t volunteer it.
Also Considered, and Why They Missed the Five
- ECS (Expert Computer Solutions). A strong west Houston record at 4.9 across 116 Google reviews, but its healthcare page names no EHR platform and no clinical client
- Galaxy IT Solutions. Names ten clinical and dental platforms and publishes a $149 per user starting price, both rare, but it works from Conroe on a service-area profile with six reviews
- Ultimate Tech Support. Houston-based since 2008 with a 10-minute response claim, though healthcare is one industry among several and no platforms are named
- Xvand Technology. A well-reviewed Houston firm whose Clutch industry focus leaves out medical entirely
- Centre Technologies. A large Houston provider that doesn’t list healthcare among its focus industries
An earlier version of this page ranked three firms based outside Houston, one in Dallas, one in Arlington and a national carrier. We took them off. A Houston clinic needs a Houston bench.
Our Take
For most Houston practices of 10 to 250 people, we think Uprite is the right first call, and the reason is dull on purpose. The response time, the price, the platforms and the exit window are all public already, so there’s less to discover after signing. No surprises. Want a vendor that does nothing but healthcare? Call True North ITG. Running a multi-office group in northwest Houston? ICS deserves a meeting. Compare the full compliance side on our healthcare IT hub, then talk to us.
Want our response time and pricing in writing for your practice?
Tell us your headcount, your EHR and how many locations you run. We’ll come back with a fixed monthly number and a signed BAA, no discovery marathon required.

Hector and Kareem are super helpful! They are always willing to take on my computer problems even if its small. I had my mouse disappear off my screen, it was an user issue but Hector didn't make me feel small or "dumb" for this error. We love uprite!
I had been having trouble with an IT matter that I didn't think would be fixed but Arvin Ebueng from Upright took his time with me and worked with me until we were able to resolve the issue. The issue was an internal issue with the way the program was written, but Arvin came up with a great work around so that I am now able to do what I need to do at my job. Long story short, he got me access to both things that I need access to simultaneously and daily. Thanks 😊 Arvin, you are much appreciated 👏 💐 🥳.
I'm am not a "tech" person, however the team at Uprite gets me through the technological side of computers and software so that I can function on a daily basis... but the most enduring quality is that they care. Special shoot out to Mary, Sergio, Eufemio, Hector, and Jeff just to name a few... I appreciate each of you and the help you give me.
Uprite has been one of the best services the company I work with has provided for us they help us with any issues we run into and are always easy to work with, and very patient with us and friendly.
We use this IT Service at Delta Fastener, they are always helpful and prompt with their responses. They solve our computer issues quickly and effectively. A knowledgeable staff is the most important asset to a company - Uprite fills that gap for us by being a partner in business for all of our IT issues. Outsource what you don't know and focus on what is really making you money!
What Houston Practice Managers Ask Before Switching IT Providers
Do we really need a healthcare-specific IT company, or will any MSP do?
Not necessarily healthcare-only, but it has to be healthcare-fluent. The provider should name your EHR, sign a BAA without being chased and know what a downtime procedure looks like at a front desk.
A general MSP that can’t name a single clinical platform will learn on your time. Expensive lesson.
What does healthcare IT support cost a Houston practice each month?
$125 to $175 per user per month is the usual Houston range for fully managed IT, based on our own Houston pricing research. Our fully managed plan starts at $138 per user, and Galaxy IT publishes a $149 starting point. The other four providers we reviewed quote only after a call. Ask early.
Who is responsible when the EHR itself goes down, us or the IT company?
Both, in different ways. If a cloud EHR vendor has an outage, your IT provider can’t fix it, but it should already have tested how your staff keep checking patients in and how you get records back when service returns.
That plan is your practice’s obligation under the HIPAA Security Rule. A good provider builds it with you and keeps it current. If the fault is on your side, the network, a workstation or a local server, it’s squarely the provider’s job.
Should an IT company sign a BAA with our practice?
Any IT company that can reach your patient data is a business associate, so the answer is a signed BAA before work starts. Hesitation there is a red flag. Walk away.
SOC 2 Type 1 or Type 2, does the difference matter when choosing a provider?
It matters some. A Type 1 report checks that a provider’s controls were designed properly on one date, while a Type 2 report checks that they actually ran over a stretch of months.
Type 2 is the stronger evidence. We hold Type 1 and ICS holds Type 2, and we’d rather tell you that than have you find it later. Neither replaces your own HIPAA risk analysis, which you can scope on our HIPAA compliant IT services page.
How do we switch IT providers without disrupting clinic hours?
Plan the cutover around your schedule, not the vendor’s. That usually means credentials, documentation and backups handed over first, with the network and workstation changes done after hours or on a closed day.
Ask the outgoing provider for admin passwords, licensing records and the backup location in writing before you give notice. We wrote up the full sequence in our guide to switching MSPs without downtime.
