The best IT support for Houston small businesses in 2026, by our SMB Fit Score, is Uprite Services at 9.44 out of 10, ahead of Braintek and ECS (Expert Computer Solutions) at 7.88 and IronEdge Group at 7.83. We checked 20 Houston IT firms and scored 19.
This is a buying guide. If you’d rather skip the comparison, our page on managed IT services in Houston shows how we’d run an office like yours, and the small business IT support in Houston page lists the plans. Everyone else, read on.
Who is it for? A Houston company with somewhere between 5 and 100 people and nobody whose whole job is IT. Lots of them. Of the 162,055 employer establishments in the Houston metro in 2023, 93.7% had fewer than 50 employees and 71.8% had fewer than 10, according to the Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns, which counts every location with a payroll. 6.3% had 50 or more. Keep that number in mind. It matters the moment a provider prints a seat floor in its headline.
Here’s how this edition came together. On October 11, 2026, we pulled every IT firm that Google showed in its AI Overview or on page 1 for 3 small-business searches, then added the 12 firms from our August edition, so nobody who ranked before could quietly drop off the list. That made 20. We read each firm’s own website, scraped its Google Maps profile with Apify, and checked the Cloudtango directory. 19 cleared our entry gates. 1 didn’t.
One thing to say plainly. We’re Uprite, we publish this list, and we finished first. So every weight and every rubric point is printed below, along with 3 alternate versions of the math. And if you run a 6-person office that needs a technician at the desk most weeks on a tight budget, our cheapest Houston plan is remote-only, and a walk-in shop like Positive Technology may suit you better.
Quick picks by situation
Best overall for offices under 100 seats. Uprite Services, 9.44
Largest Google review base on this list. Braintek, 4.9 across 367 reviews
Month-to-month flexibility. ECS (Expert Computer Solutions), annual or month-to-month terms and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee
Best once you’re past 50 seats. IronEdge Group, 7.83
Same-day dispatch and a perfect 5.0. Truewater, 7.30
Construction and engineering firms with 40 or more users. Preactive IT Solutions, 6.82
Lowest published starting price. COBAIT, $395 a month for a 5-person office (ranked 16th)
What changed since the August 3 edition. We scored 8 firms in August and 19 now. We added 8 firms that Google kept showing in its own AI answers and first-page results when we searched for Houston small-business IT support, and we scored 3 that August only mentioned. 5 things in our first edition also needed fixing or updating. We wrote that our average response was under 6 minutes, and the figure we track and publish is a 5-minute average. We listed $110 among our Houston prices, and that plan is sold only outside the Houston and San Antonio areas. We scored our reviews on 1 Google profile, and both Houston profiles count now, which lowered our number. We left ECS off because its site wouldn’t load for our scraper, and it ranks 3rd today. And PennComp’s footer no longer names New Charter Technologies, though its job openings still run through New Charter’s careers portal.
How Did We Score 19 Houston IT Firms?
Every firm had to pass 4 entry gates, then got scored on 7 weighted criteria using public evidence gathered October 11 and 12, 2026, so each number traces to the firm’s own website, its Google Maps profile, or an award list.
Nobody paid for a spot. Nobody sent us numbers. The gates were simple. A firm needed a Houston-area address on Google Maps. Its core business had to be recurring managed IT, not one-off repairs or staffing. Its own site had to market to small businesses, or state a size band that starts at 50 seats or fewer. And it had to be a real, findable company. Percento Technologies failed the third gate, since its homepage sells enterprise IT solutions and shows no small-business offer.
| Criterion | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Verified Review Score | 30% | Google Maps rating and volume (70% of this criterion) plus Cloudtango rating and volume (30%), with Google carrying all of it when a firm has no Cloudtango listing |
| Small-Business Fit | 15% | A 10-point rubric covering stated size band, Cloudtango client type, a price you can see before a call, and exit terms in writing |
| Industry Awards and Recognition | 15% | MSP 501, CRN MSP 500, Inc. 5000 and similar lists, confirmed on the publisher’s own list or in a dated announcement |
| Houston Presence and Onsite Reach | 15% | An office on Google Maps, onsite support stated in writing, same-day or scheduled visits, named local staff |
| Years in Business and Operational Maturity | 10% | Founding year, using the later year whenever a firm’s own sources disagree, plus named leaders and team size |
| Security and Compliance Depth | 10% | Named frameworks with real documentation behind them, not the word compliance on its own |
| Service Breadth and Documentation Depth | 5% | How many services the firm documents on their own pages |
The review math works the same way for everyone. Star rating carries 60% of each platform’s score and review volume carries 40%, with volume on a stepped, logarithmic scale, so a firm with 40 reviews isn’t buried by a firm with 360 and a firm with 3 reviews can’t ride a perfect rating to the top. Volume mostly reflects client mix. A shop with 300 small accounts collects reviews faster than one with 40 larger accounts, and neither one is better at the job because of it, which is exactly why volume gets the smaller share of the weight.
Why Google carries the reviews and Clutch doesn’t
The standard method for ranking IT firms puts Clutch at the top of the review stack. Not in Houston. Clutch coverage in this market is thin, and in August, 5 of the 8 firms we ranked had no Clutch profile or no Clutch reviews at all. Penalizing them would have measured Clutch adoption, not service quality. So Google Maps is the primary platform at 70%, Cloudtango backs it up at 30%, and Clutch isn’t scored.
That rule has a side effect worth naming. A firm listed on Cloudtango with a soft score loses ground to a firm that isn’t listed at all. Braintek is the clearest case. 4.9 across 367 Google reviews, then 4.6 across 4 on Cloudtango, and that 30% slice pulls its review score under 9. We applied the rule to everyone, ourselves included.
How Small-Business Fit is scored, and why it helps us
The rubric has 4 parts. Up to 4 points for size fit, where a stated band that starts at 10 seats or fewer earns 4, a dedicated small-business page earns 3, small business named in passing earns 2, and a floor of 40 seats or more earns 1. Up to 1 point when Cloudtango lists small businesses among a firm’s clients, with half a point when there’s no listing. Up to 3 points for a price you can see before a sales call, where a firm’s own price earns 3 and a market range or an online estimate earns 1.5, because a ballpark still beats a blank page. And up to 2 points for exit terms in writing, with 1 point for month-to-month terms or a guarantee that names no exit window.
Exit terms are new. We added them this edition because a 12-person company has almost no bargaining power once it signs, and a written way out is the cheapest protection it can buy. Does this factor favor us? Yes. We publish our price and a 120-day out, so we score 10. That’s why we ran the model 3 more ways. With Small-Business Fit removed, we finish first at 9.34, ahead of IronEdge at 8.86. With awards removed, we finish first at 9.34, ahead of Braintek at 8.92. Using Google alone for reviews, we finish first at 9.47, ahead of Braintek at 8.13.
2 more choices cost us points, and we kept them. We count both of our Houston Google profiles, the Westheimer office and the Clear Lake office, which brings our rating down to 4.72. And our site says we’ve served Texas since 1999 while our Clutch profile says 2008, so we scored ourselves on 2008. Fair is fair.
The Top 10 at a Glance
| Rank | Provider | SMB Fit Score | Google rating | Size they say they serve | Best for | Key differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Uprite Services | 9.44 | 4.72 (74, 2 profiles) | 10 to 300 users, and a plan for teams under 12 | 10 to 100 seats that want a price and an exit clause up front | Publishes its own per-user Houston prices and a 120-day exit window |
| 2 | Braintek | 7.88 | 4.9 (367) | 10 to 200 employees | North-side companies that want visits on a schedule | The largest Google review base of the 19 firms, plus a 90-day risk-free start |
| 3 | ECS (Expert Computer Solutions) | 7.88 | 4.9 (116) | Not stated | Offices that want to try a provider without a long commitment | Annual or month-to-month terms and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee |
| 4 | IronEdge Group | 7.83 | 4.9 (237) | Not stated | Companies growing past 40 seats | A published 12-second phone response and MSP 501 placements from 2022 to 2025 |

| 7 | Truewater | 7.30 | 5.0 (100) | Not stated | Offices with hardware that needs hands | Writes down same-day onsite dispatch across the Houston metro |
| 8 | ERGOS Technology Partners | 7.06 | 4.3 (22) | Not stated | Regulated firms that want frameworks documented | A 3-minute average help desk response and 7 named frameworks |
| 9 | Preactive IT Solutions | 6.82 | 5.0 (116) | 50 to 500 computers | Construction and engineering firms with 40 or more users | A 2024 MSP Titans award for construction and engineering |
| 10 | Quinn Technology Solutions | 6.73 | 5.0 (201) | Not stated | Professional services under 50 seats with compliance duties | A 5.0 rating across 201 Google reviews and a CMMC-centered compliance page |
Braintek and ECS both land on 7.88. Braintek is ahead by half a hundredth before rounding, so it takes 2nd. Reasonable people could flip them.

The 10 Best IT Support Companies for Houston Small Businesses
1. Uprite Services, the one that prints per-user prices
SMB Fit Score 9.44 / 10
We’re a Houston managed IT and security company with 42 people, 2 Houston offices, and a price list anyone can read. That last part is rare. 2 of the 19 firms here publish their own price. We’re 1 of them.
- Published Houston plans. Fully Managed IT is $138 per user per month and includes 24/7 support plus onsite and cloud infrastructure management. IT Essentials is $91 for teams under 12, remote only, with business-hours support capped at 8 hours per user per month. Co-managed IT is $100 and security-only coverage is $40.
- Rates locked for year 1. And a written way out. If you’re not satisfied within 120 days, you can leave the contract.
- 2 offices you can drive to. Westheimer Road near the Galleria, and Space Center Boulevard in Clear Lake.
- A 5-minute average first response. That’s 5.06 on our last tracked figure, with a target of triaging every request inside 10 minutes, and it’s an average from our own ticket data, not a guarantee.
- MSP 501, 7 years running. We ranked No. 264 on the 2026 MSP 501, and CRN put us on its Pioneer 250 in 2025.
We document our compliance work on its own pages, including CMMC compliance in Houston, HIPAA compliant IT services in Houston, and a guide to Texas SB 2610. Day to day we run managed and co-managed IT, cybersecurity, cloud and Microsoft 365, backup and disaster recovery, vCIO planning, managed phones, and cabling, with industry pages for healthcare, financial services, legal, construction, manufacturing, and oil and gas.
The tradeoffs. Reviews first. That’s where we’re weakest. Count both of our Houston Google profiles, the Westheimer office at 4.8 from 62 reviews and the Clear Lake office at 4.3 from 12, and we land at 4.72 across 74, which is an honest number and not a flattering one. That’s 10th of 19 on the review criterion. Braintek alone has 367. That stings a little. Our only SOC 2 report is a SOC 2 Type 1 from 2023, and it hasn’t been renewed. Onsite help is included in Fully Managed IT, and other plans can add it. IT Essentials is remote-only.
Best for Houston offices of roughly 10 to 100 seats that want a price and an exit clause in hand before the first meeting, especially firms carrying HIPAA, CMMC, or FTC Safeguards duties. Not ideal for a 5-person office that wants a technician at the desk every week on the smallest budget, or a 300-user company with a full IT department of its own.
Why we rank first. It isn’t the reviews. We’re the only firm here that publishes its own per-user price, puts an exit window in writing, and holds a 2026 MSP 501 placement at the same time, and that combination is something a small buyer can verify without ever taking a sales call. Take Small-Business Fit out of the model entirely and we still finish first.
2. Braintek, the biggest review base on this list
SMB Fit Score 7.88 / 10
367 Google reviews at 4.9. Nobody else here is close.
- A stated band. Braintek says it typically works with companies of 10 to 200 employees, which is about as plain as fit gets.
- Same-day onsite. Its site says clients get same-day onsite across the Houston metro, plus a permanent onsite network administrator on a set visit schedule once you’re onboarded, who has usually worked on your environment remotely before showing up.
- A real exit. A 90-day risk-free start and a 100% money-back guarantee, both on its own site.
- Storm planning we liked. It keeps a group of its own employees outside the Gulf Coast, so a hurricane or a hard freeze that shuts Houston down doesn’t shut the help desk down too.
- About 10 minutes to reach a real technician, by its own account.
Worth knowing. Braintek publishes a Houston market range, $150 to $250 per device per month depending on the security stack, compliance needs, and onsite work, but quotes its own price only after a discovery call. Its headquarters sits in Spring, at the north end of the metro, so a Pearland office is a long drive away. We found no ranking or award to score, only national features in MSP Success and MSP Cybersecurity Magazine. Features aren’t awards. Its own site dates it to 2002 and Cloudtango says 2003, so we used 2003.
Best for companies of 10 to 200 people in The Woodlands, Spring, or Conroe that want onsite visits on a calendar. Not ideal for a buyer who wants to see a firm’s own price before the first call.
Why 2nd? The largest Google record on the page, written exit terms, and onsite in writing. Recognition is the gap.
3. ECS (Expert Computer Solutions), the one with a 30-day satisfaction out
SMB Fit Score 7.88 / 10
ECS was missing from our August edition because its site wouldn’t load for our scraper. It loads now. It’s 3rd.
- 4.9 across 116 Google reviews, from an office on Park Ten Place in the Energy Corridor.
- Flexible terms. Annual or month-to-month agreements, plus a 100% satisfaction guarantee that ends the agreement if you notify ECS within 30 days.
- 23 employees, all full time. None of them are contractors, per its own site.
- Founded in September 2005 by its 2 partners, with Peter Robert as CEO.
- A compliance page that names PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOX, NIST, GDPR, and FINRA.
A rare detail, too. ECS states its general liability and errors and omissions cover, $1 million and $2 million aggregate, right on its own site, something no other firm on this list publishes on the pages we read. It also shows BBB Pinnacle Award badges for 2025 and 2026.
The gaps. No price, no published response number, and no onsite commitment on the pages we read. Its emergency line runs 24 hours a day, but its office hours are 9 to 5 on weekdays, so ask exactly how an after-hours ticket gets worked, and by whom, before you sign.
Best for a 10 to 60 person office that wants to try a provider without a long commitment. Not ideal for a buyer who needs a price on paper first.
Why 3rd? Excellent reviews and some of the most flexible written terms here. It gives up ground on onsite reach and pricing.
4. IronEdge Group, the one built for growth past 40 seats
SMB Fit Score 7.83 / 10
If this list ranked the whole Houston market, IronEdge would sit near the top. It’s built for companies a size up.
- 4.9 across 237 Google reviews and 4.8 across 19 on Cloudtango.
- Specific numbers. A 12-second phone response time and a 98% client satisfaction rating, both stated on its Houston page.
- MSP 501 placements in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, announced in its own newsroom, and CRN’s Pioneer 250 in 2017 and every year from 2019 through 2025, per CRN’s MSP 500 list.
- A named local contact, Ricky Brooks, Client Success Manager in Houston.
- Compliance support that names HIPAA, CMMC, PCI DSS, and the NIST framework.
The fit question. Cloudtango lists IronEdge’s client types as mid-sized and large companies, while IronEdge’s homepage says it helps small and midsize businesses, so a 15-person office should ask which account team it would actually get. Both claims are public. It also serves Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, and New Mexico, so the bench runs wide. That cuts both ways.
Best for Houston companies at 40 seats and climbing that want a large bench and a managed AI practice. Not ideal for a 10-person office that would rather be a big account than a small one.
Why 4th? It ties us on recognition and beats us on reviews. It gives up 1.2 points on Small-Business Fit, because we found no price, no size band, and no exit terms on its site.
5. Xvand Technology, the one with an instant estimate
SMB Fit Score 7.80 / 10
Xvand’s small-business page was Google’s first organic result for 2 of the 3 searches we checked. It’s earned the attention.
- 5.0 across 68 Google reviews and 4.8 across 9 on Cloudtango.
- A price signal. An online calculator returns an estimate before you talk to anyone. Not a price list. Still closer than most get.
- A written guarantee. Full money back, with 1 condition, that you stay fully engaged in working through problems together.
- In business since 1999, led by co-founders Victor Grinshtein and Andrey Sherman from an office on Harwin Drive in southwest Houston, with a founding idea of making proper IT affordable for small and midsize businesses.
- Industry pages for credit unions, trust companies, and pharmacies, plus Clutch Global badges for Fall 2025 and Summer 2026.
Worth knowing. Compliance runs light on the pages we read. HIPAA and PCI. Not much past them. We also didn’t find an onsite commitment or a response-time number in writing.
Best for small financial and professional offices that want a ballpark before a call. Not ideal for a firm that needs CMMC or SOC 2 depth on day 1.
Why 5th? Spotless reviews, a real price signal, and a written guarantee. Thin compliance documentation holds it back.

6. Centre Technologies, the one for companies past 50 people
SMB Fit Score 7.42 / 10
Centre says it’s built for growing mid-size companies with 50 to 500 employees. Believe it.
- Serious recognition. CRN Elite 150 every year from 2019 to 2025, CRN’s Pioneer 250 in 2026, and an MSP 501 badge for 2025.
- 4.8 across 65 Google reviews from its Greenspoint office.
- A CMMC Registered Provider Organization practice, and compliance work that names SOC 2, PCI, NIST, and HIPAA.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI, and Copilot services, the kind of business-application work a 15-person office rarely needs and a 150-person company often does once finance and operations outgrow spreadsheets.
The catch, for this list. It scores 1 out of 10 on Small-Business Fit. Its own band starts at 50, Cloudtango classes its clients as large companies, and we found no price or exit terms on the pages we read, which matters less to a 200-person buyer than to a 12-person one. Its 2 Cloudtango reviews average 4.3.
Best for Houston companies of 50 to 500 people. Not ideal for anyone under about 40 seats.
Why 6th? Everywhere except fit, it scores like a top-3 firm. Remove Small-Business Fit and it climbs to 3rd.
7. Truewater, the perfect 5.0 with same-day dispatch
SMB Fit Score 7.30 / 10
A perfect 5.0 across 100 Google reviews, from Spring Branch, since 2001.
- Onsite in writing. When an issue can’t be fixed remotely, Truewater says it dispatches technicians throughout the Houston metro, often the same day.
- A 99.99% uptime figure for managed clients and a 15-minute average first reply, which it says stays under 15 minutes even after hours.
- Named frameworks. HIPAA, SOX, and PCI, plus support for line-of-business software like eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Athena, QuickBooks, and CCH.
Worth knowing. Its homepage gives 2 response figures, 15 minutes in one spot and 12 in its escalation table, and puts its tenure at both “over 25 years” and “nearly 25 years.” Small stuff. Still, put the response number in the contract. Its FAQ asks “What if I want to cancel?” and then answers a different question, about what’s in scope, so exit terms belong on your first-call list, right next to the response number. No price either. The one ranking we could confirm is CRN’s Pioneer 250, back in 2015.
Best for Houston offices with hardware in the building and staff who want a person, not a portal. Not ideal for a fully remote team that’ll never use onsite visits.
Why 7th? A perfect review score and onsite reach in writing. It drops points on fit and recognition.
8. ERGOS Technology Partners, the one with 7 frameworks and 3-minute answers
SMB Fit Score 7.06 / 10
Formed in 1997, with a compliance practice that names 7 frameworks, from SOC 2 to ISO 27001.
- A 24/7 live help desk that ERGOS says answers in an average of 3 minutes, with real technicians rather than an automated system, plus a guaranteed 1-hour response on urgent requests.
- 7 frameworks. SOC 2, HIPAA, NIST, CMMC, PCI DSS, GDPR, and ISO 27001.
- 5 CRN MSP 500 listings between 2014 and 2022, the last as a Pioneer 250.
- More than 14 locations across the U.S. and the UK, with a Houston headquarters on Clarkson Lane.
The tradeoff. Reviews. 4.3 across 22 is the lowest Google rating among the 19 firms we scored, and it’s 4.5 across 3 on Cloudtango, so a firm with one of the longest framework lists also has the thinnest public record of what its clients think. No price and no exit terms either.
Best for regulated firms that need documented frameworks more than a big review count. Not ideal for buyers who use Google stars as the first filter.
Why 8th? Strong compliance and response numbers, older CRN recognition, and the weakest reviews in the field.
9. Preactive IT Solutions, the one built for construction and engineering
SMB Fit Score 6.82 / 10
Read Preactive’s homepage headline before anything else. “Texas Construction or Engineering Firms With 50 to 500 Computers.” Its body copy puts the sweet spot at 40 to 400 users.
- 5.0 across 116 Google reviews and 4.8 across 8 on Cloudtango.
- An industry award. A 2024 MSP Titans award for construction and engineering.
- Onsite dispatch in writing, and detailed Microsoft 365 and Azure service pages.
- In business since 2003, from an office on Blalock Road.
The fit problem. 93.7% of the Houston metro’s employer establishments have fewer than 50 employees, so a 50-computer floor screens most of them out before the first call. That’s a big filter. We also found no named compliance framework on its homepage or its cybersecurity page.
Best for engineering firms, general contractors, and MEP subcontractors with 40 or more users. Not ideal for any office under 40 seats.
Why 9th? Superb reviews and real construction depth. The floor and the thin compliance documentation cost it.
10. Quinn Technology Solutions, the one with 201 reviews and no founding date
SMB Fit Score 6.73 / 10
5.0 across 201 Google reviews. Only Braintek, Positive Technology, and IronEdge have more.
- Compliance first. A compliance page built around CMMC, with HIPAA, PCI DSS, DFARS, and GDPR named too.
- 24/7 help desk, onsite and remote support, and coverage in Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Conroe, and Galveston.
- A pricing guide with Houston market ranges, $100 to $250 per user per month for standard packages.
Worth knowing. That guide prices the market, not Quinn. We couldn’t find a founding year on its site either. Its domain dates to April 2013, so we scored it on 13 years. No ranking or award turned up.
Best for professional firms and contractors under 50 seats that carry HIPAA, CMMC, or DFARS work. Not ideal for a buyer who weighs track record and outside recognition heavily.
Why 10th? Top-tier reviews and strong compliance naming. Recognition and a short verifiable history keep it at 10.
Scored, but Outside the Top 10
9 more firms cleared the gates. Each one has a real strength. Here’s where they landed and why.
| Rank | Provider | SMB Fit Score | Google rating | Why it sits outside the top 10 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11 | Elevated Technologies | 6.65 | 5.0 (37) | A 5-minute response guarantee and month-to-month terms, but a 2 to 10 person team by Cloudtango’s count and award claims we couldn’t confirm |
| 12 | Enstep Technology Solutions | 6.48 | 5.0 (40) | In Houston since 2001 with a written information security plan service, but no price, no exit terms, and no named frameworks beyond the FTC Safeguards Rule |
| 13 | PennComp | 6.41 | 5.0 (81) | In Houston since 1988 with 98% client retention, but no named compliance framework and no price |
| 14 | AMSYS | 6.38 | 4.8 (79) | 23 years and 97% client retention, but its site leans toward public-sector and enterprise projects |
| 15 | IS&T | 6.32 | 4.6 (32) | Founded in 1997 as an IT staffing firm, and its 24/7 help desk runs through a partner |
| 16 | COBAIT | 6.23 | 4.5 (13) | Publishes starter prices from $395 a month for 5 employees, with 13 Google reviews behind it |
| 17 | Positive Technology | 6.05 | 4.9 (261) | A walk-in repair counter since 2018 that also sells per-user plans for 2 to 50 seats |
| 18 | HoustonTech | 5.80 | 4.6 (29) | Weekly onsite visits on offer, but no price, frameworks, or exit terms on the pages we read |
| 19 | Idealtek | 5.06 | 5.0 (6) | A home office by appointment that targets 5 to 75 users |
A few of these deserve more than a table row.
Elevated Technologies makes the fastest response guarantee on this list. It guarantees a 5-minute response time, offers month-to-month terms, and names real clients, Prime Downhole Manufacturing, Omega Engineers, and Apogee Consulting Group. Its site also calls it award-winning, citing Inc. 5000, Channel Futures, and the Houston Business Journal Fast 100, but gives no years, and we couldn’t confirm any of the 3 on the publishers’ lists we could read, so they didn’t score.
PennComp needs one more line. Its footer used to say it was a New Charter Technologies company. That line is gone. Its job openings still run through New Charter’s careers portal, though, so ask who owns the firm you’re signing with.
Positive Technology is the honest answer for the very smallest offices. It’s a computer repair shop on Cypress Creek Parkway with the counter still open, 4.9 across 261 Google reviews, and per-user plans for offices of 2 to 50 seats, which makes it one of the few firms here you can simply walk into with a broken laptop. It scores low on years, frameworks, and recognition. Tiny offices may not care.
COBAIT is 1 of only 2 firms on this page, with us, that prints its own prices. Its Silver plan starts at $395 a month for 5 employees, 5 desktops, 1 server, and 24/7 remote help desk support, with $595 and $995 tiers for 10 and 15 employees. Good to know. It also runs a digital marketing business, and its review base is small.
The Small-Office Test
A 12-person office can check 5 things on a provider’s website before agreeing to any call, and across the 19 firms we scored, only 2 publish their own price and only 5 put exit terms in writing.
We built this grid from the same pages we scored. It’s not a ranking. It’s what you can learn for free.
| Firm | Own price published | Size band stated | Exit terms in writing | Response figure published | Onsite in writing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uprite Services | Yes, $91 to $138 per user | 10 to 300 users | 120-day out | 5-minute average | Yes, on Fully Managed |

3 patterns stood out. First, price. 2 firms print their own, 3 more give a range or an estimate, and 14 tell you nothing until a call. Second, exit terms. Only 5 of 19 put a way out in writing, and that’s the clause a small company leans on most when a provider goes quiet. Third, response numbers. 6 firms publish one, and they don’t measure the same thing. IronEdge counts seconds to a phone pickup. We count minutes to a first human response. ERGOS reports a 3-minute help desk average. Fair comparison takes a contract, not a homepage.
Not found means we didn’t see it on the pages we read. It doesn’t mean the firm won’t offer it. Ask.

How to Choose IT Support for a Houston Office Under 100 Seats
Match a provider’s stated size band to your headcount first, then get the price, the exit terms, and the response number in writing, and only after that compare reviews and awards.
Why that order? Because the first 3 can disqualify a firm in 5 minutes on its own website, while the last 2 take an afternoon of reading, cross-checking award lists, and calling references. Start with what kills a deal. A 50-computer floor ends the conversation for a 15-person office, however good the reviews are.
It also helps to know who you’re buying from. The Houston metro had 3,471 computer services establishments in 2023, and 87% of them employed fewer than 10 people, by the same Census count, which works out to fewer than 9 employees per establishment on average. Your IT provider is very likely a small business too. That’s fine. Just ask how many technicians would know your network, and who covers when one of them is on vacation.

Under 12 people
You want to be a real account, not a rounding error. Our IT Essentials plan is built for this size at $91 per user, remote-only, with business-hours help capped at 8 hours per user each month, and our page on IT support in Houston walks through what it covers. COBAIT prints plans for 5, 10, and 15 employees. Positive Technology runs a walk-in repair counter alongside its per-user plans. Idealtek targets 5 to 75 users from a home office. Different shapes. Pick the one that matches how often you need hands on hardware.
12 to 50 people
This is the widest field and the place where a printed price earns its keep. Run the math. At 25 users, a $20 per user difference adds up to $6,000 a year, which is real money for a company this size, and it’s the kind of gap you can only spot when both firms print a number. Braintek, ECS, Xvand, Truewater, and Quinn all work here, and so do we. If you want local context before you call anyone, our breakdown of what managed IT costs in Houston walks through the per-user math.
50 to 100 people, and growing
Bench depth starts to matter more than closeness. Ask about the bench. IronEdge and Centre are built for this band, Preactive fits engineering and construction firms here, and we cover it on Fully Managed IT. For a wider view of the market at every size, see our ranking of Houston managed IT providers.
If you’re regulated
Push past the word compliance. Ask which framework, ask to see the documentation, and ask for a named client in your industry. If you handle customer financial data, the FTC Safeguards Rule at 16 CFR Part 314 may apply even if you’ve never heard of it. CISA’s guidance for small and medium businesses is a fair free starting point, and our Houston small business cybersecurity checklist turns it into questions for a provider.
If your office goes dark in a storm
Ask where the help desk sits when Houston loses power. Braintek keeps staff outside the Gulf Coast for exactly that reason. Get the plan in writing either way, including who restores a dead server and how fast. It’s the question nobody asks in May. Everybody asks it in July.
Where We’d Start
If you want a price and a way out before you talk to anyone, start with us. Reviews are your tiebreaker? Call Braintek. If you’d like a month-to-month trial, ECS is the competitor to beat. Past 50 seats, IronEdge and Centre are built for you. And if you need someone to drive out the same day, Truewater writes that promise down. Whoever you pick, get the response number, the exit terms, and the onsite rules into the contract, then hold them to it.
See the numbers for your headcount
Our Houston plans are published, so you can price a 10-person office or an 80-person one before we ever talk. When you’re ready, we’ll walk through your setup and tell you plainly if another firm on this list fits you better.

Questions Houston Small Business Owners Ask Before Signing
Who has the best IT support for small businesses in Houston?
Uprite Services scores highest in our 2026 ranking at 9.44 out of 10, followed by Braintek and ECS (Expert Computer Solutions) at 7.88 and IronEdge Group at 7.83.
We publish the list and we’re on it, so every score traces to public evidence. On reviews alone, Truewater and Quinn Technology Solutions score highest.
How much does IT support cost a small business in Houston?
Published Houston numbers run from $395 a month for COBAIT’s 5-person plan to $250 per device at the top of Braintek’s market range, with our Fully Managed IT plan at $138 per user per month.
Quinn’s pricing guide puts standard packages at $100 to $250 per user per month, and because the units differ, per user, per device, or per office, you’ll want to convert every quote to a monthly total for your own headcount before comparing anything. Hardware, licenses, and projects usually sit outside these numbers. Ask what’s excluded.
Is there a minimum company size for managed IT in Houston?
Some providers set one in writing, so check before the first call, because Preactive IT Solutions headlines 50 to 500 computers and Centre Technologies says 50 to 500 employees.
Others go small. Positive Technology serves offices from 2 seats, Idealtek from 5 users, and Braintek from 10 employees. Our IT Essentials plan is built for teams under 12.
How fast should a Houston IT company answer a ticket?
Minutes, not hours, for a first human response, and 6 of the 19 firms we scored publish a number you can hold them to.
ERGOS reports a 3-minute help desk average, we report a 5-minute average first response, Elevated guarantees 5 minutes, Braintek says about 10 minutes to a real technician, Truewater says 15, and IronEdge counts 12 seconds to a phone answer. Those measure different things. Answering isn’t fixing. Our MSP SLA benchmarks explain which numbers belong in a contract, and the Houston response time guide shows how to test them.
Can I get out of a managed IT contract if the provider isn’t working?
Only if the contract says so, and just 5 of the 19 firms we scored put exit terms on their own site.
We offer a 120-day out. Braintek offers a 90-day risk-free start and a money-back guarantee, ECS lets you end the agreement if you notify it within 30 days under its satisfaction guarantee and also sells month-to-month, Xvand offers money back, and Elevated sells month-to-month. Everyone else, ask.
Do I need an IT provider with a Houston office, or will a remote team do?
Wrong question, slightly, because what matters is whether you have hardware in a building that someone will eventually have to touch.
If you do, get onsite terms in writing. 11 of the 19 firms we scored state onsite support on their sites, and Braintek and Truewater both put same-day in writing, which is the clause that matters on the afternoon a switch dies and the whole office goes offline. Our onsite work comes with Fully Managed IT. Fully remote teams can do fine with a remote plan.
Is a computer repair shop the same as business IT support?
No, because a repair shop fixes what breaks and bills by the job, while managed IT watches, patches, and backs up everything for a flat monthly rate.
Some firms do both. Positive Technology runs a walk-in repair counter and sells per-user managed plans. For a 3-person office the repair model can be cheaper, but as the office grows, unpatched machines, forgotten passwords, and backups nobody has test-restored usually make a flat plan the better deal.
How do I check an IT company’s claims before I sign?
Give it 20 minutes and 3 checks, starting with every Google profile the firm runs, not just its best one.
Then confirm any award on the publisher’s own list, such as the MSP 501 or CRN’s MSP 500. “Award-winning” with no list and no year counts for nothing. Last, ask for the response number, the exit terms, and the onsite rules to be written into the contract itself, because a website can change the week after you sign and a contract can’t.
Should a 20-person office hire a big MSP or a small one?
Bench depth is the real question, since 87% of the Houston metro’s computer services establishments employ fewer than 10 people.
Ask how many technicians would know your network and who covers vacations. We have 42 people, ECS says 23 full-time employees, and Cloudtango puts Elevated at 2 to 10. Bigger isn’t automatically better. A 20-person office can be a priority account at a mid-size firm and an afterthought at a big one.
