The Bedroom-Community Hangover
Cypress Businesses Were Built Without an IT Department. The Area Is Now Growing Up Around Them.
Start with the fact that shapes everything else here. Cypress is not a city. It is an unincorporated stretch of northwest Harris County sitting inside Houston’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, spread across two ZIP codes, 77429 and 77433, with roughly 200,000 residents between them. No city hall. No downtown. No central business district. Nothing that anchors companies to one square mile the way a real municipal core does.
So Cypress grew as a place people lived, and its businesses ended up headquartered wherever the owner already lived. A structural engineering firm in a suite off Barker Cypress. A three-location dental group near Fairfield. An oilfield services company running crews out of a flex building on the 290 frontage road. A commercial contractor whose people are never in the same ZIP code twice in one week. Uprite provides managed IT support across the greater Houston market, and this profile is specific to the northwest side.
Almost none of these companies started with a server room. Almost none of them have a full-time IT person. That is not a criticism, it is a genuinely different starting point from a firm inside the Loop, and it produces a distinct environment: everything in Microsoft 365 or a vertical cloud app, everyone on a laptop, staff scattered across Bridgeland, Towne Lake, Coles Crossing, Cypress Creek Lakes, and Stone Gate, and one internet circuit that got ordered by whoever happened to be in the office the week the lease started.

What changed is everything around them. Cypress is converting from a bedroom community into an employment center, and quickly. Howard Hughes is building Bridgeland Central as the 925-acre urban core of the 11,500-acre Bridgeland community. Its first phase, Village Green, opened in 2025 with roughly 198,000 square feet of retail and Class A office, including One Bridgeland Green, the first full mass timber office building in the greater Houston area. Chevron has picked up more than 77 acres in the same district.
In February 2026 the Houston Texans, Howard Hughes, and Harris County announced the Toro District, an 83-acre development inside Bridgeland Central anchored by the team’s 175,000-plus-square-foot global headquarters and training facility, projected to create more than 17,000 jobs across the region. Healthcare moved first. Houston Methodist opened its $650 million, 105-acre Cypress Hospital campus in March 2025, next door to Memorial Hermann Cypress and the 139-bed HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress. Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, the third largest school district in Texas at more than 110,000 students, sits underneath all of it.
Here is what that does to a Cypress company. The firm that ran happily on laptops and a shared drive for eight years is suddenly signing a real lease, hiring past forty people, bidding work that arrives with a security questionnaire attached, and holding patient or client data it now has to prove it protects. The IT that was fine at fifteen people quietly became a liability at fifty. Nothing broke. The company just outgrew it.
Most of them are still on break-fix. You pay when something breaks, which sounds reasonable until you look at the incentive. The people you pay do better when your week goes badly, which is a strange thing to build a technology plan on. Nobody is being paid to notice that the backup has been failing quietly since March, or that four laptops never got the last three months of patches because their owners work from home and never plug into anything.
The exposure is real and it is getting worse as attackers use AI to write phishing lures that no longer read like phishing. IBM’s Cost of a Data Breach report puts the global average at $4.88 million per incident, which is the enterprise number. For companies the size of most Cypress employers, Verizon’s Data Breach Investigations Report found that 43% of all cyberattacks target small businesses and 60% of those businesses close within six months.
For a Cypress medical group or a contractor bidding public work, the damage is rarely just the incident. It is the referral source that quietly stops sending patients, and the prequalification you can no longer answer honestly.
What follows is the alternative. Proactive instead of reactive, and a cloud setup somebody actually owns instead of one everybody assumes is already handled.
Service Area
What Serving Cypress Means When Cypress Has No City Limits
Because there is no municipal boundary, “do you serve Cypress?” is a fair question with a vague answer unless somebody draws the map. Here is ours, drawn honestly.
Our Houston office is at 5718 Westheimer Rd, Suite 1000-101, Houston, TX 77057, roughly 20 miles southeast of Cypress. Technicians head out US-290 or up Beltway 8 to the 290 interchange, and increasingly along the Grand Parkway, which now carries most of the north-south traffic on that side of the county.
Coverage is all of 77429 and 77433, including Bridgeland, Towne Lake, Fairfield, Coles Crossing, Cypress Creek Lakes, Stone Gate, Miramesa, Dunham Pointe, and Canyon Lakes West, plus the businesses along the US-290, SH-249, and Grand Parkway corridors. It carries on into Jersey Village, Hockley, Waller, and Tomball. Neighboring Katy sits just south down the Grand Parkway and Spring sits east across SH-249, and we support businesses in both.

Roughly 80% of tickets close remotely, which matters more in Cypress than almost anywhere we work, because a good share of any given team is not in the office on any given day. A technician connects, diagnoses, fixes it, and nobody drives anywhere. But some work needs hands on hardware. You are taking a suite in Bridgeland Central and need circuits ordered, a firewall configured, cabling handed off, access control set, and workstations staged before the lease starts. A switch dies at a clinic at 6am and nobody can pull a chart. A practice is merging two offices and the network has to become one network. We show up for those.
Tell us what your Cypress setup looks like right now.
Even if the honest answer is “a bunch of laptops and Microsoft 365.” You’ll get a written assessment back inside two business days, at no cost.

What Managed IT Services in Cypress Should Actually Include
Time to get specific, because “managed IT” means wildly different things depending on who is selling it.
A managed IT services provider, an MSP, runs your technology environment for one fixed monthly per-user fee that covers monitoring, cybersecurity, help desk, backup, vendor wrangling, and planning. Nothing bills hourly at 11pm. Nothing arrives unannounced in March.
Almost every bad outcome starts inside the base agreement. A Cypress business lines up two quotes, takes the lower per-user number, and learns six months later that endpoint security was an add-on, backup testing was never in scope, Microsoft 365 tenant hardening counted as a separate project, and after-hours work bills at $200 an hour. Nothing was ever cheaper. Things were simply missing.
So what belongs in the base rate for a Cypress company running 20 to 200 users, most of them on laptops, most of the time not in the building? Here is the line-by-line we walk owners through.
| What’s Covered | Uprite (Starting $91/user/mo) | Typical Northwest Houston MSP ($125–$175/user/mo) |
|---|---|---|
| Help desk support | Included, real technicians | Usually included |
| Microsoft 365 tenant hardening and management | Included, not a project | Often a one-time engagement |
| Patching laptops that never touch the office | Cloud-managed, no VPN required | Frequently on-network only |
| 24/7 system monitoring | Included in IT Pro | Often a tier upgrade |
| Endpoint security (EDR) | Included | Commonly an add-on |
| Email security and phishing defense | Included | Commonly an add-on |
| Cloud backup with restore testing | Included, tested semi-annually | Backup yes, testing rarely |
| Extended regional outage continuity plan | Written and rehearsed | Usually improvised on the day |
| Vendor coordination | Included | Sometimes included |
| Strategic IT planning (vCIO) | Quarterly or monthly reviews | Rarely at the base tier |
| Compliance support (HIPAA, PCI-DSS, Texas SB 2610) | Built into the service model | Usually a separate consulting engagement |
| Published pricing | Yes, on the website | Almost never |
| Written satisfaction guarantee | 120 days | None we have seen in this market |
| On-site Cypress support | Dispatched from our Houston office | Varies widely |
| SOC 2 Type 1 certification | Yes | Few local MSPs hold it |
Research and Markets’ 2025 managed services forecast found companies using MSPs cut overall IT costs 20% to 30% and gain 15% to 25% in productivity through reduced downtime. That math only holds if the base agreement covers what you actually use. Our full managed IT services breakdown lists every plan line by line.
Ask what is included. Then ask, in writing, what is not. The answer to that second question tells you which of the two you are actually hiring.
Getting Started
How Onboarding Works
Plenty of providers call the transition painless and then spend four months half-documenting your environment. Here is the actual sequence, with real timelines and the Cypress-specific wrinkles called out.
Step 1. Discovery Call
Thirty minutes on what you actually run, how many people you have, where they sit, what keeps breaking, and which client or regulator is asking you questions you cannot answer yet. A conversation, not a pitch.
Step 2. Network and Security Assessment
A no-charge review of endpoints, your Microsoft 365 tenant configuration, identity and MFA coverage, backup health, and whatever network gear exists. For cloud-only Cypress shops this is mostly a tenant and endpoint audit, and it usually finds more than anyone expects. You get the written report either way.
Step 3. Custom Proposal With Published Pricing
No black-box quote. Our per-user pricing is already on the website, so the proposal is about which plan fits and exactly what sits inside it. Compare it line by line against the table above.
Step 4. Onboarding and Documentation
Two to four weeks. We deploy monitoring to every endpoint including the laptops that never come to the office, configure the security stack, document systems and vendors, move admin credentials into a vault, and stand up ticketing. Your team gets the help desk number and portal on day one.
Step 5. Ongoing Support and Strategy
Help desk for daily issues, 24/7 monitoring for anything that runs unattended, and quarterly or monthly strategy reviews depending on plan. We cover what broke, what is aging out, and what the next hire or the next office does to your setup.
Most Cypress clients are fully live on the new environment inside three weeks, and cloud-only companies are often quicker than that because there is less legacy to unwind. Multi-site medical and dental groups usually run closer to five, because merging two practice-management environments is never a two-week job.

The Four Things Cypress Owners Push Back On
“We’re already in the cloud. What is there to manage?”
This is the most common one in Cypress and it deserves a real answer. Microsoft runs the servers. Nobody runs your tenant. Conditional access policies, MFA coverage on every account including the shared mailbox nobody remembers, license right-sizing, mailbox forwarding rules an attacker quietly added, retention and legal hold, third-party apps someone consented to in 2022, and the fact that Microsoft 365 backup is your responsibility and not theirs. Being in the cloud moved the work. It did not delete it.
“Half our people work from home. Does on-site support even matter?”
Less than it does for a company with a plant, more than you would think. The parts that matter are patching and monitoring that reach a laptop wherever it happens to be, identity security that does not assume anyone is on your network, and someone available when a person in Towne Lake and a person in Bridgeland report the same problem twelve minutes apart. On-site matters for build-outs, moves, dead hardware, and the day a clinic cannot see patients. We do both instead of pretending only one exists.
“This is more than we budgeted for IT.”
Set against what, though. One experienced IT professional in Houston runs $95K to $165K fully loaded, still cannot cover nights, still takes vacation, and is almost certainly not also a security specialist and a cloud architect. Our IT Pro plan at $110 per user puts a team behind you instead. For a 50-person Cypress company that is $5,500 a month against $8K to $14K for one or two hires who still leave gaps at 2am.
“Our last provider was a one-person shop and it worked fine until it did not.”
We hear this constantly out here, because a solo consultant is a genuinely reasonable fit for a 12-person company and a genuinely bad one at 60. The failure is never malice. It is one person on vacation during an incident, no documentation anyone else can read, no after-hours coverage, and no ability to answer a client security questionnaire. If you want to keep your person, most of our northwest Houston work is co-managed IT, where they stay and stop being the single point of failure.
Differentiators
Three Things That Set Us Apart
Published Pricing, No Sales Call Required
Starting at $91 per user per month, listed on the website before you talk to anyone. Nearly every northwest Houston MSP we compete against requires a discovery call before showing you a number. Compare the whole market in our Texas MSP pricing index.
A 120-Day Guarantee With a Clean Exit
Written into the contract, not printed on a brochure. If we do not deliver, you leave, and you leave clean. Nothing to buy out, nothing to serve notice on, no exit fee buried in an appendix. It has been in every agreement for years, because it is the thing that keeps us honest when nobody is watching.
Security and Continuity Built for Companies With No Server Room
SOC 2 Type 1 certified with the HIPAA Seal of Compliance. For Cypress that means identity-first security, cloud backup you can actually restore from, and a written plan for the week northwest Harris County loses power, not a rack full of gear you do not own. Backed by our cybersecurity solutions and Houston disaster recovery practice.
Honest Fit Check
Who This Is Built For (And Who It Isn’t)
| Right fit | Not the right fit |
|---|---|
| A Cypress business between 10 and 300 people that has never had real IT and is starting to feel it | An enterprise with 500-plus staff and a fully built internal IT department. We do co-managed work, but you likely need a different scale of partner. |
| A cloud-only company running on Microsoft 365 and vertical apps that has never had anyone audit the tenant | A three-person startup that needs email and a shared drive. An MSP is premature. Microsoft 365 and a good password manager will carry you a while yet. |
| A medical, dental, imaging, or therapy practice in the Cypress hospital corridor carrying HIPAA obligations across more than one location | A company whose only criterion is the lowest possible number. An MSP quoting $60 per user is excluding things you will pay for later, usually at the worst moment. |
| A contractor, engineering firm, or oilfield services company whose people are in the field far more often than they are at a desk | |
| Any Cypress company signing its first real office lease, most likely somewhere along the Grand Parkway or in Bridgeland Central |

FAQ
What Cypress Business Owners Ask Us First
Northwest Houston market rates run roughly $125 to $175 per user per month for fully managed IT. Uprite starts at $91 for IT Essentials, which covers business-hours support, core monitoring, and the Microsoft Defender security stack. IT Pro is $110 and adds 24/7 monitoring, advanced endpoint and email security, Azure management, and strategy reviews. Fully Managed IT with on-site support starts at $138. Every number is published, and your rate is locked for the first year.
Yes. Our office at 5718 Westheimer Rd, Suite 1000-101, Houston TX 77057 is roughly 20 miles from Cypress out US-290 or up Beltway 8, and we dispatch across 77429, 77433, Bridgeland, Towne Lake, Fairfield, Coles Crossing, Jersey Village, Hockley, Waller, and Tomball. About 80% of issues close remotely, which suits a workforce that is rarely all in one building, but build-outs, office moves, dead hardware, and anything that stops a clinic seeing patients get a person on site.
Quite a lot, because Microsoft runs the servers and nobody runs your tenant. We take ownership of identity and multi-factor coverage, conditional access, license right-sizing, mailbox rules and forwarding an attacker can add without touching a single laptop, third-party app consents, retention, and independent Microsoft 365 backup, which is your responsibility rather than Microsoft’s. We also manage and patch every endpoint from the cloud, so a laptop that never touches an office network still stays current.
The answer for most Cypress companies is not a generator, it is portability. Because so little sits on premises here, we plan for the workforce rather than the building: cloud-hosted line-of-business systems, offline access to the documents people actually need, cellular failover for anyone who has to be reachable, phone systems that reroute to mobiles automatically, and a written call tree so nobody spends the first morning guessing. We test the plan rather than filing it. Gulf Coast outages are a scheduling problem here, not a data-center problem.
Yes. Three hospital systems now operate in and around Cypress, including the Houston Methodist Cypress campus that opened in 2025, and the specialty and dental practices that follow them carry the same HIPAA obligations the hospitals do. We hold the HIPAA Seal of Compliance and SOC 2 Type 1 ourselves, and we handle encryption, access control, audit logging, business associate agreements, secure backup, and the documentation an auditor asks for. Multi-location practices get particular attention, because merging two practice-management environments is where most of the risk hides.
That is one of our favorite jobs, and the earlier you call the better. We handle circuit ordering and the lead times nobody budgets for, firewall and switch configuration, wireless coverage design, network segmentation for guest and clinical traffic, cabling handoff with the general contractor, workstation staging, phone extensions, and door access integration, all completed before move-in. Bridgeland Central alone is adding Class A office space that did not exist in Cypress three years ago, and we would much rather plan a network than inherit one.

Nobody Budgets for the Week It All Stops
One ransomware event is enough. The average small-business breach runs $254,445, and that number covers none of what follows: the weeks of operational chaos, the clients who quietly stop calling, the insurance renewal that doubles, the contract you lose because you could not answer the security questionnaire. Or the quieter version we run into far more often out here. Somebody resigns, and it emerges that they were the only person who ever held the admin credentials, because nothing was ever vaulted.
Cypress spent twenty years as the place people drove home to. It is turning into the place they work, and the companies here are taking on real offices, real headcount, and real client obligations faster than their technology was ever set up to handle. At $91 to $138 per user per month, getting this right costs a small fraction of a single bad week.
