The Houston Business Journal ranked 460 privately held Houston companies by 2025 revenue this year, up from 360 in 2025, and together they made $130 billion. Uprite Services came in at No. 290. We’re a managed IT and cybersecurity firm, a long way from the billion-dollar names at the top. Making a revenue-only list at all says our managed IT services in Houston and across Texas have grown steadily.
Uprite Services ranked No. 290 on the Houston Business Journal’s 2026 Private Companies List, published September 11, 2026. HBJ ranks 460 Houston-area private companies by 2025 revenue, and while the names at the top are energy, logistics, and holding companies, Uprite is a managed IT and cybersecurity provider that serves businesses across Texas.
Here’s what the List measures, where we land on it, and what a revenue rank can and can’t tell you about an IT provider.

What is the Houston Business Journal Private Companies List?
The HBJ Private Companies List ranks privately held companies based in the Houston area by total revenue for their most recent year, which is 2025 for this edition. HBJ’s research team compiles its Lists from its own research and from questionnaires the companies fill out.
HBJ published the 2026 edition, titled Houston’s 460 top private companies made $130B in 2025, on September 11, and it’s a much bigger List than last year’s, with 100 spots added to take it from 360 companies to 460.
Leadership changed as well. At the top, The Friedkin Group is No. 1 with $14.0 billion in 2025 revenue, followed by Tricon Energy at $13.0 billion. Last year’s leader is gone. Constellation Energy completed its acquisition of Calpine on January 7, 2026, and since Constellation is publicly traded, HBJ removed Calpine from the 2026 List after the deal.
Where does Uprite land at No. 290?
We’re in the back half. That’s fine.
Look at the top 4, which are The Friedkin Group, Tricon Energy, Chevron Phillips Chemical, and McDermott International, and you’ll see industries where a single contract can be worth more than an MSP bills in a whole year. A managed IT provider grows the slow way, 1 client at a time, through monthly support agreements with businesses that usually have 50 to 500 employees, and every one of those agreements has to be earned and then renewed.
So what does No. 290 actually mean? Not that we’re bigger than most Houston companies. It means enough Texas businesses trust us with their networks, their users, and their security to put an IT firm on a list built mostly around heavy industry.
We think that’s the more useful way to read it.
A quick note on the numbers. HBJ’s full table, including each company’s reported revenue, is for subscribers only. Readers without an HBJ subscription will see only the first few rows. HBJ’s other rankings sit on its Houston Lists page.
What’s behind the growth?
Nothing dramatic. Steady work, compounding.
- Clients who stay. Managed IT is billed monthly, so revenue only grows when clients renew.
- A 7-year run. We placed No. 264 on the 2026 MSP 501 list, our 7th straight year on the Channel Futures MSP 501 ranking of the world’s top managed service providers.
- Reach across Texas. We serve Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and Fort Worth.
- A local acquisition. In August 2026 we acquired Trif Technologies, a North Dallas MSP founded in 2000, and its clients kept the same engineers and phone numbers.
A growing regional economy helps too. According to the Greater Houston Partnership’s 2026 jobs forecast, the metro will add 30,900 jobs this year and reach a record 3.5 million, and when our clients hire, they need more laptops, more accounts, and better protection, because every new login gives attackers another way in.

Should a revenue ranking affect how you choose an IT provider?
A little. Not much.
We’re proud of the ranking, but if we told you it proves we’ll answer your call faster, we’d be selling you something. A revenue rank tells you a provider is stable, not a 1-person shop that might vanish next year, and that’s worth knowing before you hand over the keys to your network. It tells you nothing about how that provider treats a 40-person office on a Tuesday afternoon.
| What a private-company revenue rank tells you | What it doesn’t tell you | Ask the provider this instead |
|---|---|---|
| The firm has real, recurring revenue | How fast they respond when something breaks | What is your measured average response time? |
| The firm is likely to be around next year | Whether you’ll be locked into a long contract | Can we leave if we’re unhappy in the first few months? |
| Clients keep paying and renewing | What you’ll actually pay per user | Do you publish per-user pricing? |
| The firm is based in Houston | Whether they know your industry’s compliance rules | Which frameworks do you support clients through today? |
We publish our answers to all 4. Our average response time is tracked across every support ticket and posted on our Houston service page, our 120-day guarantee lets you leave if we don’t earn your business, and our Texas MSP Pricing Index shows what managed IT actually costs across the state.
Ask every provider on your shortlist the same 4 questions. Their answers sort them fast.

What Houston businesses ask about the HBJ ranking
Is the Houston Business Journal Private Companies List a paid award?
It’s a research ranking, not an application-based award. HBJ’s research team ranks companies by revenue, using its own research and questionnaires the companies complete.
Why can’t I see Uprite on the List?
The full List is subscriber content. Without an HBJ subscription, bizjournals.com shows only the top few companies, while subscribers and readers of the September 11, 2026 print edition can see all 460 entries, including Uprite at No. 290.
How does HBJ decide which companies qualify?
Only privately held companies based in the Houston area make the List, ranked by most recent year revenue. Ownership matters. Calpine, last year’s No. 1, left the List after publicly traded Constellation Energy acquired it in January 2026.
Does ranking higher mean a provider gives better service?
Not on its own. Revenue shows scale and staying power, not responsiveness, so ask for measured response times, contract terms, and references from companies your size.
